Fracked gas is being exported from Florida's coasts and it endangers the climate and people who live near these facilities. Fracked gas is supercooled into a liquid form and transported in large amounts by rail or trucks. It's extremely flammable and jeopardizes the safety of communities in its path.
At a time when moving away from fossil fuels is critical for avoiding the worst climate impacts, the fossil fuel industry is doubling down in Florida. Fracked gas export facilities have already been built in Jacksonville and Miami-Dade. Once the gas is liquefied at these locations, it's shipped out from Florida ports. Unbelievably, the industry is proposing even more facilities in Jacksonville and the Panhandle, and the proposals will keep coming until Congress acts to ban gas exports.
Right now, Congress has the opportunity to stop $15 billion in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. These subsidies promote the continuing buildout of new infrastructure, like fracked gas exports. Congress is currently negogiating the infrastructure package and budget, and we need our Florida Congress members to push for ending fossil fuel subsidies in these bills.
Urge your member of Congress to help stop the fossil fuel subsidies that promote the buildout of these dangerous fracked gas export facilities!
