The Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Indian Affairs recently released a dangerous draft plan amendment for managing public lands and minerals in New Mexico’s Greater Chaco area that would fast track more fracking on these lands!
It would make nearly a million acres available for lease to the oil and gas industry for more extraction, many of which are in or near Navajo communities.
The plan as a whole has been under development for six years and this latest amendment sidelines the need for a Resource Management Plan that considers human health, social and environmental justice. This plan will only serve to further sacrifice the region’s cultural integrity, endanger communities, and jeopardize clean air, water, and the climate.
Tell the Bureau of Land Management to STOP the plan to frack Chaco, and to give us a new Resource Management Plan that considers human health, social and environmental justice!
