The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has long promised — and failed — to set safety standards for PFAS "forever chemicals" and address widespread drinking water contamination across the country.
Long-term exposure to PFAS chemicals has been associated with health problems, including liver malfunction, birth defects, thyroid disease, weakened immunity and cancer.
On July 21st, the House of Representatives passed the PFAS Action Act of 2021. Now it's time for the Senate to address this huge public health problem impacting the drinking water of communities across the country.
The PFAS Action Act of 2021 would:
-- Set drinking water standards for PFOA and PFOS (the two most studied PFAS chemicals);
-- Make polluters pay to clean up their contamination; and
-- Take steps to finally address the public health threat of PFAS.
Everyone deserves clean water. Urge your senators to pass the PFAS Action Act of 2021 and protect our drinking water from toxic chemicals!
