High gasoline and diesel prices are wiping consumers out at the pump — and it's not because of supply chain issues. Gasoline is sold to the highest bidder, and right now, oil companies can make record profits selling gasoline to other countries, which is driving up prices at home and hitting your wallet.

Big Oil is exploiting the high prices they’ve created to call for more drilling and fracking, which will only lock us into decades of more greenhouse gas pollution and speed up climate chaos. That's the last thing we need. The best long-term protection for consumers, global stability, and our climate is a rapid transition off fossil fuels. But right now, we need to control gas prices by reining in exports.

Gasoline prices are out of control, and working families desperately need relief. I urge you to support any efforts to halt gasoline exports.

The high prices at the pump we’re facing right now are not the result of supply chain issues or bans on new drilling. Nearly all of the gasoline sold in the United States is produced here. The problem is that right now, oil companies can make more profit selling gasoline to other countries, which is driving up prices at home.

We are exporting near-record levels of gasoline and diesel, the products that are currently wiping consumers out at the pump. Instead of begging CEOs to offer up solutions, I urge you to support a more direct step to alleviate the pain being felt by families. We need to rein in gasoline exports, as part of a strategy to reduce fossil fuel dependence across the economy.

In the long term, the best way to meet our energy needs is to double down on bold investments in renewable energy while shutting down the fossil fuel industry. A rapid transition off fossil fuels will be the best protection for consumers, global stability, and our climate.
